Who is the favorite?

Trenton walked onto the hardwood on Dec. 3 and three months later the Tigers have yet to lose a game. After losing two Region 8 tournament games last season, Bob Turcotte’s squad has rattled of 21 in a row and they don’t seem to be slowing down. The Tigers have the experience to know what to expect in the postseason and there’s still no seniors on the team. Trenton has been able to win by putting up points as well as slowing the pace done. Five times this season, the Tigers have scored 70 points or more and four times this year they’ve been able to win games by only scoring 45 points or fewer. Turcotte is one of the best coaches in Class B and he’ll have his team ready come Monday against Bowbells-Burke County.

Who else?

Parshall: After suffering three straight losses earlier this season, Parshall has put together a solid 2018-19 campaign. Junior Katherine Fox is a player the Braves look to a lot for offensive success and Cedar Hall is having a tremendous junior season. Hall scored 28 points in Parshall’s 69-28 win over Ray earlier this January. Trenton has had trouble with the Braves in the past but each time this season the Tigers have prevailed.

Kenmare: The Honkers have one of the most talented underclassmen in North Dakota in Kate Zimmer. The Kenmare eighth-grader scored 24 points in the Honkers 51-46 win over Divide County in the District 16 tournament and added 13 points in a championship game. Zimmer will need some help but if she catches fire offensively, the Honkers could live to see another day in this tournament.

Dark Horse Team

Mandaree: The Warriors don’t have the best record but they are looking to upset a team or more this week. Mandaree lost to Trenton 87-39 on Jan. 11 and then took the Tigers to overtime on Feb. 8 only to lose 64-61 in overtime. Chris Smith has made some second half adjustments and they are starting to pay off. The Warriors have a tough draw in the quarterfinals as they’ll face Kenmare, however, these two teams have not played this season and District 15 team has won five of its last six games.
